Attapinya (www.attapinya.com), a web based line of jewelry and yoga bags, is celebrating October Fair Trade month, by making social responsibility a fashion statement. Attapinya’s Founder and Chief Designer, Aphinya Deley transformed her love of nature and Yoga into a socially responsible line of exquisite handcrafted jewelry and yoga bags, enhancing the lifestyle of the yogi consumer and the Thai artisans themselves.
Fair trade has never been more important. In the wake of global labor crises, Fair Trade businesses strive to create environmental sustainability, support participatory workplaces, supply financial and technical support, providing consumer education, respecting cultural identity, and offering public accountability, as well as to direct and long-term relationships with artisans and farmers in developing countries.. The business generated by Fair Trade Organizations in Europe and the U.S. now accounts for an estimated $400 mllion annually.
An ardent supporter of the Fair Trade Federation social movement, Attapinya adheres to high business standards and environmental principles that benefit low-income artisans and laborers in developing countries in order to create economic self-sufficiency. By setting new social and environmental standards for international companies, the Fair Trade Federation demonstrates that trade can indeed be a vehicle for sustainable development.
“Since we are connecting globally through trade, members of the Fair Trade Federation strive to expand respect to the individuals and environment. Everything in the universe has a cause and effect which can create or destroy our destiny. Attapinya creates products people can wear as a reminder to do well unto others and the earth,”says Deley.
Deley considers Fair Trade a personal mission. Her frequent trips to Thailand mark her special dedication to the artisans who design and create her products. On each visit Deley visits the homes of her artisans, building strong and personal relationships with their families. By immersing herself in the village, she invigorates her spiritual beliefs and renews her connectedness with Thailand.
Delay added, “As I sat and spoke with artisans in rural villages in Thailand, I realized how interconnected our world is. I met people who have the same dreams I do.”
Attapinya is proud to be part of a global trading system that promotes workers' rights, protects the environment and sustains the ability of local producers to meet community needs. Together, as consumers, they can make a huge difference by demanding significant changes in the ways goods are produced, and vote with their dollars for a more just and environmentally conscious global community.
